A visit to the Trades Hall is a journey through time as each room reveals
another insight into the past.
In these rooms pupils can expect to
learn about people in the past; how they lived, worked and amused themselves, some of the major events and characters that shaped the city, and Glasgow’s place in world history for pioneering techniques in science, industry and art.
The Stone Hall: in this room a short film introduces children to the history of Glasgow.
The Timeline & Exhibition: follow the Timeline from 1605 until the present day. Inter-active games,
artefacts, interesting facts and historic events are punctuated by population figures throughout the years. The Timeline is an exhibition area
especially designed to appeal to children of all ages. Colourful displays and graphics make it easy for children of all abilities to understand and follow.
The School Room: from 1808 until 1872 this room housed a free school in which hundreds of children learnt reading, writing, arithmetic, geography, church music and principles of religion.
Here we learn what it was like for children in the past.
The Saloon: this room is
full of information and stained glass panels.
The Grand Hall: this
ornate room filled with portraits and a wonderful golden frieze has been used over the years for
banquets, meetings and important ceremonies.
